ROBOTICS

1️⃣ THE $700M SIGNAL: NEKO GETS LIGHTSPEED'S LARGEST CHEQUE EVER

What happened: Neko (AI robotics/automation platform) raised $700M Series C at a Lightspeed-led round.

Valuation: $X (undisclosed, but we're talking unicorn+ territory on this check size)

What Neko does: AI coordination platform for robots and autonomous systems. Think: orchestration layer for fleets of machines. Factories, warehouses, logistics.

Why this matters: Lightspeed just wrote their largest Series C check ever for a non-unicorn company. That's not accidental.

Jose's take: When a top-tier VC writes a 7-figure Series C, they're not betting on potential. They're betting on customer traction they've validated in their portfolio. Neko isn't getting $700M because of the pitch. It's getting $700M because customers are paying and scaling is real. The check size signals Lightspeed has conviction this company exits at $10B+.

AI

2️⃣ THE $400M FLEX: CHAI DISCOVERY BECOMES AI INFRASTRUCTURE STANDARD

What happened: Chai Discovery (AI platform for scientific research/drug discovery) raised $400M Series C led by Index Ventures.

Current traction: 50+ pharmaceutical companies using the platform. Real customers. Real revenue.

What they do: AI models trained on 20+ years of biotech data. Discovers molecules faster, cheaper, better than traditional methods.

Why this matters: Index Ventures doesn't lead $400M rounds on moonshots. They lead them on infrastructure companies they believe will become the standard in their category.

Jose's take: Five years ago, pharma companies weren't paying for AI tools. Now they're building their R&D on top of them. Chai is becoming the Stripe of drug discovery. That's a $20B+ company trajectory. Index pricing their conviction at $400M = they see that upside clearly.

DEFENSE

3️⃣ THE $100M SIGNAL: TERRAFORMA GETS KLEINER'S BIGGEST SERIES A EVER

TerraFirma

What happened: TerraFirma (climate/climate tech infrastructure) raised $100M Series A led by Kleiner Perkins.

Current customers: 15+ enterprise customers (energy companies, utilities, oil+gas operators pivoting)

What they do: Software + hardware platform for carbon measurement and verification at industrial scale.

Why this matters: Series A companies don't raise $100M+ unless they're showing growth metrics that normally take Series B to unlock.

Jose's take: Kleiner wrote a $100M Series A check. That means Series A metrics (100%+ growth, $1M+ ARR, enterprise traction) were so strong they skipped the normal $30-50M check and went 2x. Climate capital is moving. And it's moving to companies with enterprise customers, not just environmental vibes.

DEFENSE

4️⃣ THE PATTERN: CUSTOMER PROOF > HYPE

Look at rounds 1-3:

  • Neko: Customers scaling (factories/warehouses deploying robots)

  • Chai: Customers paying (pharma using the platform)

  • TerraFirma: Customers buying (utilities + energy companies locked in)

None of these are pre-revenue. None of these are pre-customer. All have paying customers with usage proving the value.

This is the market signal: Capital has moved from betting on models to betting on customers.

Five years ago, a $400M AI series C meant exceptional technology. Today, it means exceptional customer traction.

Jose's take: If you're raising in 2026 and you don't have 10+ paying customers, you're swimming upstream. The market separated founder hype from founder proof. Proof wins now. Hype dies.

DEFENSE

5️⃣ THE SECONDARY WAVE: $65M + $60M DEAL ACTIVITY CONFIRMS THE SHIFT

  • Ollama ($65M Series B): AI models/infrastructure. Theory Ventures leading.

  • InstaLILY AI ($60M Series B): Energy tech (power grid AI). Energize Capital leading.

Both are Series B companies that hit growth metrics fast enough to extend runs in 2-3 years instead of 4-5.

Both have customers pulling them forward, not investors pushing them.

Jose's take: The best indicator of capital efficiency isn't burn rate. It's how fast you move from Series A to Series B. Ollama and InstaLILY both raised Series B in 2-3 years. That signals product-market fit unlocked faster than typical. Customers did that, not marketing.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

If you're an investor: Stop looking at pitch decks. Start asking: "How many customers? How much ARR? What's retention?"

If you're a founder: Stop pitching potential. Start building proof.

Five customers with expansion revenue beats one thousand prospects who "could be interested."

If you're building infrastructure: This is your moment. Neko, Chai, TerraFirma, Ollama all raising mega-rounds. Infrastructure is the compounding advantage in the next 5 years.

WHAT HAPPENS THIS WEEK

Capital momentum usually compounds. When you see $1.3B deployed in 72 hours, next week sees more.

Watch for:

  • Series A announcements (companies following Neko/Chai/TerraFirma path)

  • Series B rounds (from companies that hit growth metrics like Ollama/InstaLILY)

  • Strategic investor activity (Lightspeed, Index, Kleiner will have follow-on theses)

The best deals this week are the ones announcing next week.
