$5 trillion on the sidelines

By Jose Ruiz · · 7 min read

Good morning, Crowd!

It’s Sunday!

Google just turned search into a creator hub.

Investors are sitting on $5 trillion in cash like it's a safety blanket.

SpaceX employees are about to become instant millionaires.

Bitcoin is down "horrendous" (yes, that's the actual headline). And Marvel finally proved it's not required for a $1B box office.

Four stories. Four lessons about where the money actually flows.

I'm Jose, founder.

Sunday is the week synthesis, connecting dots that most people think are separate.

TECH
🎯 GOOGLE TURNS SEARCH INTO CREATOR HUBS

The deal: Google just announced it's turning search results into creator hubs. Instead of just showing you a link, Google will now show you the creator's content directly in search. They're cutting out the middleman (the website).

Google

Wait, let me translate that: Google is saying, "We own the audience. We don't need your website anymore. Just feed us content directly, and we'll distribute it."

This is actually genius and terrifying at the same time.

Why this matters:

For creators: Your website traffic just died. Google is now the platform.

For Google: They control 92% of search. They just made themselves the only place creators need to be.

For founders: If you built a business around SEO traffic, you're cooked. That moat just evaporated.

The funny part: Creators spent 10 years building websites, optimizing for Google, and learning SEO. Google just said, "Actually, skip all that. Just post directly here." It's like someone teaches you chess for a decade, then changes the rules.

What this means:

If you're a creator, you're now choosing between:

  • Build your own platform (hard, expensive, no audience)

  • Feed Google directly (free distribution, zero revenue, zero control)

It's the classic tech move: Creators want distribution. Google gives distribution. Creators lose everything.

MARKETS
💰 INVESTORS ARE SITTING ON $5 TRILLION IN CASH

The deal: WSJ just reported that investors and corporations are hoarding cash at historic levels. $5 trillion sitting in bank accounts earning 3-4% when the stock market is returning 15%+ annually.

Adobe Stock

Translation: Investors are scared.

They have money. They're not using it. They're waiting for something to break.

Here's the problem: Money sitting in an account is like a car parked in the garage. It's not moving. And when money doesn't move, the economy stalls.

The economics nerd part:

This is called "money velocity." It measures how many times a dollar is spent per year. Right now, velocity is low. People are hoarding. That's the opposite of what you want in a growing economy.

When velocity is low:

  • Prices stay down

  • Growth stays slow

  • Opportunities pile up

  • Eventually, someone realizes "wait, I'm earning 3% in cash and losing 4% to inflation."

Then the dam breaks. And everyone moves at once.

What this means for your portfolio:

The $5 trillion sitting in accounts is capital waiting to deploy. When it moves, it moves fast. That's when you get:

  • Valuations shooting up

  • Startups are raising 2x faster

  • M&A activity exploding

  • Secondary markets moving

We're in the calm before the storm. The money is ready to go. Just waiting for the first person to move.

If you can identify which sectors get that capital first, you win big.

PRIVATE MARKETS
🚀 SPACEX EMPLOYEES ARE ABOUT TO BECOME MILLIONAIRES OVERNIGHT

The deal: SpaceX IPO is June 12, 2026, on Nasdaq (ticker SPCX). Reports say 5,000-8,000 SpaceX employees are holding shares worth millions each. When it pops, they become instant millionaires.

Space X

But here's the WILD part: SpaceX is targeting a $1.75-1.77 TRILLION valuation at IPO ($135/share). That would make SpaceX the 7th biggest company in America—bigger than Tesla. Meanwhile, Morningstar (the literal "dean of valuation") values SpaceX at only $780 billion.

Translation: SpaceX is either the most brilliant company ever or the most catastrophically overvalued. The valuation gap is $1 TRILLION.

The funny part:

SpaceX employees are literally doing the math right now:

  • If $1.75T valuation holds at IPO: Average employee gains $5-15M

  • If it crashes 50% post-IPO: Still worth $2-8M

  • If it goes higher: Could hit $50M+

That's not an investment thesis. That's a lottery ticket you actually earned by showing up to work.

What's really happening:

SpaceX is the only company that makes rockets reusable. They reduced launch costs by 90%. That's physics-changing innovation. Starlink has 58% of SpaceX revenue—8M+ subscribers globally. The military version (Starshield) is now a $3B+ revenue stream.

Musk convinced the U.S. military that SpaceX is critical infrastructure. When the government is your customer and believes you're essential, valuations can get ridiculous.

What this means:

Is SpaceX worth $1.75T? Arguments for YES:

  • Reusable rockets (game-changing)

  • Starlink dominance ($7.7B revenue in 2024)

  • Government contracts infinite

  • Space logistics monopoly forming

Arguments for NO (Morningstar's take):

  • xAI is bleeding capital

  • Valuation is 2.2x Morningstar's DCF valuation

  • First-day pop expectations massive

  • IPO timing risky

The $1T valuation gap is the risk/reward. Either SpaceX is a generational company worth $2T+, or it's overpriced and crashes 30-40% post-IPO. There's no middle ground here.

CRYPTO
💥 BITCOIN IS DOWN "HORRENDOUS"

The deal: Bitcoin dropped significantly. The headline literally says "down horrendous." (I love that this is the actual financial journalism now.)

Nick Iluzada

Here's what actually happened:

Bitcoin was at $70K. Dropped to $55K. That's a 20% drawdown. In crypto terms, that's basically a normal Tuesday.

But the narrative is "Bitcoin crashed." Which means:

  • Retail investors panic-sold

  • They sold near the bottom (classic move)

  • Institutional investors are quietly buying

  • This is the part of the cycle where weak hands leave

The truth:

Bitcoin volatility is a feature, not a bug. It's a feature for smart investors (who buy dips) and a bug for retail investors (who panic-sell).

If you couldn't handle Bitcoin dropping 20%, you shouldn't have been in Bitcoin. You should have been in index funds. Bitcoin is for people who can:

  • Handle 30-50% drawdowns

  • Hold for 4+ year cycles

  • Do not check the price every day

  • Actually believe in the thesis

What this means:

Bitcoin down 20% is actually a gift. It's the market saying, "Is anyone stupid enough to sell Bitcoin at a discount?" And yes, tons of people are.

If you believe Bitcoin goes to $100K+, you're probably buying this dip, not selling.

If you're panic-selling, congrats, you just locked in losses before the next rally.

🎬 MAY HAD ITS FIRST $1B BOX OFFICE WITHOUT A MARVEL

The deal: For the first time in years, May hit $1 billion in global box office without a Marvel movie. Other studios are actually making money.

This is a big signal: Marvel's monopoly is breaking.

For 10 years, Marvel was the only studio that could guarantee a $1B+ box office. If you wanted to make money in 2026, you needed a superhero suit and a 3-hour runtime.

Now, other genres are hitting $1B. Which means:

  • Audiences want variety

  • Marvel fatigue is real

  • There's room for other stories

  • Money is spreading out

The funny part:

Hollywood spent 15 years trying to replicate Marvel. "Build a cinematic universe!" "Create franchises!" "Make it a trilogy!"

Then audiences were like, "Actually, we just want good stories." Plot twist nobody expected.

What this means for investors:

This is about optionality. When Marvel was the only game, studios had no choice. Now studios have a choice. And choice is better than monopoly (usually).

For media companies: Your streaming service needs variety, not just superhero content. That costs more upfront but pays off long-term.

For private equity, Entertainment businesses are getting more interesting because the formula is breaking.

🎯 JOSÉ'S SUNDAY SYNTHESIS

Four stories.

One pattern: The old game is changing faster than people think.

Google killed SEO. Cash sitting in accounts is waiting to be deployed. SpaceX is worth either $50B or $500B (pick one). Bitcoin is down, but probably going up. Marvel doesn't own culture anymore.

The through-line: Monopolies are breaking. Optionality is winning. Capital is getting ready to move.

What this means for you:

  • If you're a creator, you can't hide behind SEO anymore. You need an actual audience

  • If you have cash, congratulate yourself for being scared. Soon you'll be sorry you didn't deploy

  • If you have SpaceX shares, congrats on your lottery ticket. Cash it in or hold forever

  • If you sold Bitcoin at $55K, you earned a PhD in panic selling

  • If you're making a movie, non-superhero content is viable again

The week showed us: Old moats are disappearing. New moats are forming. The money is waiting to move.

Hunt accordingly. ☕
