By Jose Ruiz ยท ยท 6 min read

Good morning, crowd.

  • ๐Ÿ’ธ Meta wants $95B (just not your vote)

  • ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ SpaceX's $40B chip haul and Musk's warning

Anthropic just filed to list as ANT. Will you buy on day one?

The ice cream shop that makes money when it's cold

28 Wishes sells ice cream in Los Angeles. Below 70ยฐF, sales fall about 20%. The weather is out of their hands. Rent isn't.

So the owners started putting about $20 a day into weather markets, taking the cold side. The days that keep customers away now pay something back.

This is hedging. Big companies have done it for decades, buying protection against bad weather, fuel spikes and rising rates. It used to take a broker, a trading desk, and an order size no corner shop could meet.

opens it up. Contracts on weather, fuel prices, inflation, tariffs and regulation, starting at a few dollars. Take a position on the outcome that would hurt you. If it hits, the payout softens it. If it doesn't, the contract expires and the good month was the point.

THE IPO

๐Ÿงพ Anthropic Just Filed to Go Public. Ticker: ANT

Illustration: a giant stock exchange screen in Times Square celebrating an IPO

The scoop: It's official. Anthropic filed its IPO paperwork with the SEC and plans to list on Nasdaq as ANT, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley running the deal. The Wall Street Journal says it could raise $100 billion or more at a $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion valuation.

The details:

  • $16.3B in revenue in the first half of 2026, up from $1.2B a year earlier

  • 11,900+ customers now pay it $100K or more a year, up from 950

  • $112.4B in cash on hand as of June 30

  • Week of Nov 16: the target listing week, per the WSJ

  • Its risk factors warn about AI models that could resist being shut down. Yes, really

Why it matters: A $100 billion raise would be more than three times the size of Saudi Aramco's record 2019 IPO. Whatever price ANT gets becomes the yardstick for every AI company still raising money privately.

BIG TECH

๐Ÿ’ธ Meta Wants $95 Billion. It Doesn't Want Your Vote

Illustration: stacks of share certificates and cash feeding into an AI data center

Plot twist: The company that spent a decade buying back its own stock is now selling it. Meta launched a plan to raise up to $95 billion in new shares to pay for AI, its first new stock since 2013.

The details:

  • $35B now: $22.5B of common stock through forward sales plus $12.5B of convertible preferred shares

  • $60B later: sold bit by bit starting early 2027, using its new non-voting Class C shares

  • Up to $5B: what Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom, Meta's own chip suppliers, may buy

  • -$2.1B: Meta's free cash flow last quarter, after $34.9B of AI spending

Why it matters: AI spending has outgrown even Meta's cash machine. When chipmakers buy the stock of the customer buying their chips, the money starts going in circles, and that's worth watching.

AI MONEY

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ SpaceX Borrowed $40 Billion for AI Chips. Then Musk Warned Everyone Else

Illustration: pallets of AI chips in a warehouse as a rocket launches outside

The flex: Elon Musk said SpaceX closed $40 billion of debt to buy AI chips arriving in the first half of 2027. Then he took a swing at the "neoclouds," the companies that rent out AI computing power.

The details:

  • SpaceX can borrow because it has investment-grade credit and Starlink cash behind it

  • "Debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money" for AI data center companies without other revenue, Musk posted on Sunday

  • Nebius, CoreWeave and Iren all fell on Monday after the warning

Why it matters: The AI boom just split in two: companies with other businesses that can borrow cheaply, and pure AI landlords that can't. Private credit funds have lent heavily to the second group.

DEAL OF THE DAY

โ›ฝ A $50 Billion Gas Giant Is Born

Illustration: a natural gas well pad in the Appalachian hills at sunrise

The deal: Natural gas producer EQT agreed on Monday to buy rival Range Resources in an all-stock deal, creating a company worth more than $50 billion including debt.

The details:

  • 0.987 EQT shares for each Range share, leaving EQT holders with about 73%

  • 9+ billion cubic feet equivalent of gas a day from nearly 3 million acres

  • $325M a year in promised cost savings within two years

  • Range shares jumped about 10%. Closing is expected in early 2027

Why it matters: US power demand is climbing, and data centers are a big reason. Gas producers are bulking up to be the ones who keep the lights, and the GPUs, on.

Illustration: an unbranded foldable phone next to an empty store display

The vibe check: Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo, went on sale Friday, and launch-day stock vanished almost as soon as orders opened. New orders now show delivery dates in late January.

  • A 5.4-inch outer screen opens into a 7.6-inch one

  • ~6M: how many Counterpoint expects Apple to sell this year
