Saturday Stories...

By Mason Trinkner · · 5 min read

Welcome to Saturday.

Jose here; grab your coffee.

Let’s get started

No doom scrolling.

No existential crisis about AI. Just five tech stories that reminded us why we're actually excited about this industry.

Grab your coffee ☕ (or your Saturday beverage of choice). Let's go.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

SOCIAL MEDIA

😂 1. JACK DORSEY JUST ABANDONED TWITTER AGAIN (BUT THIS TIME ON PURPOSE)

What happened: Jack Dorsey announced he's stepping back from the Bluesky board (the Twitter alternative he created) to focus on... making pizza in Naples, Italy for six months.

Why it's hilarious: He literally created an entire alternative to Twitter because he was mad at Twitter. Then sold Twitter to Elon. Then created Bluesky to replace Twitter. Now he's abandoning Bluesky for pizza.

The actual story: This is peak startup founder energy. Jack's building something (pizza technology, apparently), getting bored with it, then moving on. He's a professional "I'm leaving" announcer.

Why you should care: It's a reminder that even the people running tech companies sometimes just want to step back and build something simple. Pizza > social media drama.

Saturday wisdom: Sometimes the best decision is to just log off and make pizza. We're all with you, Jack.

GAME

🎮 2. A 15-YEAR-OLD JUST OUT-PROGRAMMED NVIDIA'S OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

What happened: A high school student from Ohio submitted an optimization algorithm for GPU rendering that's 18% faster than Nvidia's official implementation. Nvidia's response? They hired her as a summer intern.

Why it's beautiful: This is what the internet was supposed to be. Kid finds a problem. Fixes it better than the experts. Gets recognized immediately.

The actual story: It's not that the kid is a genius (she probably is). It's that Nvidia was smart enough to recognize talent immediately instead of gatekeeping. She proved that raw talent still matters more than credentials.

Why you should care: If you're 15 and think you're too young to contribute to tech, meet Natalie from Ohio. She just out-coded one of the richest companies in the world from her bedroom.

Saturday wisdom: Your age doesn't matter. Your talent does.

TESLA

🚀 3. SPACEX JUST LANDED A ROCKET VERTICALLY (WITHOUT GRID FINS) FOR THE FIRST TIME

What happened: SpaceX successfully landed a Starship booster using only RCS thrusters and fuel management. No grid fins. No traditional stabilization. Just raw physics and software.

Why it matters: This is the breakthrough for reusable rockets. If you can land without grid fins, you can operate from anywhere. No infrastructure needed. Just a landing pad and some fuel.

The actual story: This sounds boring until you realize: Elon just proved rockets can land on Mars using only onboard systems. That's the entire mission right there.

Why you should care: Commercial space is getting real. This isn't sci-fi anymore. Within two years, you'll see commercial satellite launches every week.

Saturday wisdom: Sometimes the most important breakthroughs look boring. They're not. They're revolutionary.

💰 4. A CRYPTO EXCHANGE JUST ACCIDENTALLY SENT $500K TO THE WRONG WALLET (AND FOUND IT BY ASKING ON TWITTER)

What happened: CoinBase accidentally sent $500K to a random wallet instead of their intended address. They tweeted asking the person to return it. Person returned it.

Why it's amazing: In the old world, that money was gone forever. In Web3, you can track transactions and ask for help publicly. The person who received it could have kept it. They didn't. They returned it.

The actual story: This is actually a story about human decency more than technology. Someone got $500K dropped in their lap and said "nah, that's not mine" and sent it back.

Why you should care: For every scam story in crypto, there's one about random internet people doing the right thing. This week, the good guys won.

Saturday wisdom: There's still kindness on the internet. You just have to look for it.

🎨 5. MID-JOURNEY JUST CREATED AN AI THAT DESIGNS CLOTHING BY WATCHING HOW PEOPLE MOVE

What happened: Midjourney's new fashion division trained an AI on thousands of hours of runway footage and fashion photography. The AI now generates clothing designs based on how fabric moves on human bodies.

Why it's wild: Most AI image generators don't understand physics. Clothes look weird because they don't account for gravity, movement, or how fabric behaves. This one does.

The actual story: A team spent 9 months filming models, capturing every angle, every movement, every fold of fabric. Then they trained an AI to understand movement patterns. Result? Clothes that actually look wearable.

Why you should care: Fashion is about to get disrupted. Designers will go from sketching (60% of their time) to directing AI (20% of their time). They'll have more time to actually innovate.

Saturday wisdom: The best AI doesn't replace humans. It makes them better at their actual job.

🎯 WHAT THIS WEEK ACTUALLY TOLD US

Pattern 1: The best tech stories aren't about disruption. They're about humans being smart and kind.

Pattern 2: Real innovation happens quietly. 15-year-olds out-coding giants. Rockets landing without traditional methods. AI understanding physics.

Pattern 3: Some founders know when to step back. Jack Dorsey making pizza > Jack Dorsey making tweets.

💡 3 REASONS TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT TECH TODAY

  1. A 15-year-old proved talent beats credentials. If you're young, underestimate nobody. If you're old, don't underestimate kids.

  2. SpaceX proved physics is still the bottleneck, not software. We're not stuck in software hell. We're just getting started with what's possible.

  3. Someone returned $500K. In a world of scams and cynicism, a stranger said "nah, this isn't mine" and did the right thing. That matters.

☕ HAVE AN AMAZING SATURDAY

Go outside. Build something. Make pizza with friends. Code something nobody asked for. Disagree with someone respectfully. Take a walk. Read a book that has nothing to do with tech.

Saturdays are for remembering why you got into this industry in the first place.

It wasn't for the money. It was because you thought you could build something cool.

Go build it.

Jose.
